St Stephen's Chapel Wedding Photos

As the principal church of the Archdiocese of Brisbane, St Stephen’s Chapel is a place of special significance.

Weddings at the Chapel are conducted in accordance to the rites and teachings of the Catholic Church. The Catholic minister who will carry out your wedding will help you every step of the way to know what is required in more depth.

There are couple of important requirements for using St Stephen’s Chapel as a wedding ceremony venue:

  • One partner must be a baptised Catholic
  • If either partner has been previously married and divorced they will require a declaration of freedom to marry from an ecclesiastical tribunal of the Catholic Church.
  • Pre-marriage education will also be required. This course is conducted by Centacare (Catholic Family and Community Services). Further information on the pre-marriage education program is available on Centacare’s website:   www.centacarebrisbane.net.au  or telephone 3252 4371.

Weddings can be celebrated during the week, Saturday or on a Sunday afternoon. There are a couple of dates that you cannot have your wedding at this venue:

  • Sundays during Lent,
  • Holy Week,
  • Easter weekend (which includes Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday, and Easter Monday)
  • Christmas Eve or Christmas Day
  • Anzac Day; and
  • Other public holidays throughout the year.

On a Saturday these are the times you are permitted to hold your wedding ceremony:

St Stephen’s Chapel

  • 11.30 am Every Saturday of the month
  • 4.30 pm Every Saturday of the month

You can enquire with the Wedding Coordinator, to learn more about times other on Saturday, and availability.

The Cathedral Sacristan (staff charged to look after the Chapel) will be in attendance on the day and can help with any last minute questions. To secure your booking a deposit of 50% of the full cost is payable at the time of the booking. You can contact the Wedding Coordinator for the total costs payable.
